I.- RESERVATION POLICY
A.- Reservations for the end of the week:
For the end of the week (Thursday,Friday,Saturday), we - generally - take reservations only2 weeks in advance,if and when there are still rooms availalble.
...we are sorry,but there will be NO GUARANTEE Of AN AVAILABLE ROOM then.
B.- For reservations which are mademore than 2 months in advance there is aminimum stay of 5 nights,in general.
C.- We can only accept reservations up to 4 months prior to the day of arrival.
D.- Because we are a very small, individual hotel with highly personalized and rather sophisticated rooms,NOreservations from any GROUPS(more than 4 people) can be accepted.Thank you for your kind understanding.
E.- CANCELLATION POLICY : PLEASE ALWAYS ASK BEFORE YOU RESERVE!
Generally :6 weeks.
For reservations which are longer ahead: at least 8 weeks.
a) In case of a CANCELLATION we reserve the right to charge 2 NIGHTS.
b) LAST MINUTE CANCELLATIONS ( 20 days prior to the day of arrival) ARE NOT POSSIBLE.In this case,we reserve the right to charge the full amount.
c) Any CHANGE of the reservation after the day of the cancellation limit is also NOT POSSIBLE.
d) PLEASE DON'T MISS READING THIS

Because we do not work with any (last minute ) booking sites and travel agencies whatsoever, unfortunately,
WE NEED A VERY STRICT CANCELLATION POLICY AND CANNOT MAKE ANY EXCEPTIONS, REGARDLESS of the reason for any eventual cancellation, or any possible situation, e.g.: illness, personal & family & weather conditions...including the sudden death of your great grandmother, a totally unexpected leg amputation of your best friend, any beautiful vulcano eruptions or any other terrible natural events, and - last but not least - any FLIGHT CANCELLATIONS, expected or not...
PLEASE KINDLY KEEP IN MIND: This is a small ,very individual and privately owned hotel (with owners who are working, at least, as hard as you do) and not one of those big and anonymous chain hotels, of whatever category.
Although it should go without saying: You are, of course, at TOTAL LIBERTY to book a room with us - OR NOT, but...PLEASE DO NOT RESERVE A ROOM AT OUR HOTEL IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO ACCEPT THE RISK OF OUR VERY STRICT AND UNEQUIVOCAL CANCELLATION POLICY - IT IS YOUR RISK, AT ALL COSTS, NOT OURS.
In case you have accepted our cancellation policy, we consider it to be only FAIR, if this obligation, entered into voluntary, is met faithfully, REGARDLESS OF WHATEVER UNFORSEEN SITUATION . Notwithstanding all the well-known mythology and beautiful mysticism in the travel industry one needs to be down-to-earth: To prevent any - totally unnecessary - mystification and disappointment we strongly recommend you to TAKE OUT TRAVEL INSURANCE to limit YOUR RISK of un eventual cancellation.

A.- PLEASE,NEVER send CREDIT CARD DETAILS by an ordinary e-mail - ONLY BY TELEPHONE OR FAX ...or the secured booking form.
We cannot guarantee the safty of personal data which are sent by the usual e-mails.One expert said:It is as if you were sending your credit card details by post card...

B.- ALL ROOMS ARE NON-SMOKING
By the way,since July 1 2008 a comprehensive national smoking ban is in effect for all hotels and restaurants in The Netherlands.
C. - In all the rooms there is AIR CONDITIONING.
D.- UNFORTUNATELY this historic canal house is NOT SUITABLE FOR FAMILIES - there are no family rooms or suites.
E. - All rooms have FREE WIRELESS HIGHSPEED INTERNET access.
Did you forget your LAP TOP?
No problem.We lend you one ,to take to your room,for 1 or 2 hours (sorry,we have got only 2...) - of course:FREE OF CHARGE.
F.- Local telephone calls are free.
G.- Needless to say:You can expect a hair dryer in the room...we also provide an iron & iron board on request.
H.- THE VERY ESSENCE OF OUR RESERVATION PHILOSOPHY
DELIBERATELY we have chosen not to work with
a) any booking sites or
b) any travel agencies whatsoever.
The reason for this - indeed somewhat "strange" policy - is not the so often assumed question of paying commission, but possible communication problems with intermediators.
YOU know much better than the most professional travel agent in the world what you would like. Also:Most travel agents can't spend so much time with an individual client & potential guest, as we do,and, of course, they cannot be so familiar with the specific situation and conditions of our hotel, as we are.
This approved - exceptionnel - policy prevents the well known problems of impersonal & anonymous & "blind" internet bookings, and also any possible communication problems with an intermediator.
That is the reason why our rooms can be reserved EXCLUSIVELY PERSONALLY...not even by your secretary, or your friends !
This might be a little bit inconvenient for you, but we are sure, this is in your favour, IF AND WHEN you are looking for a room which is much more than one of those innumerable conventional hotel rooms.
It goes without saying, this PRIVATE GUESTHOUSE is not suitable for the popular night crowd and the conventional mass tourism.
It is, unfortunately, also not suitable for those guests who need public facilities, such as a big lobby, a bar or a restaurant, to meet other guests or their friends.

If you are A LIGHT SLEEPER, please keep this in mind, if you would like to reserve a CANAL VIEW ROOM,which is always a "street view room":
Your eyes will be absolutely pleased of what you get to see at daytime,your ears might have some doubts at night...especially if you are fighting against the jetlag. Although the hotel is on a quiet street,YOU CANNOT SLEEP WITH OPEN WINDOWS (as in no big city!) - certainly not on hot weekends in the summer - most probably you did not expect that anyway.

Notwithstanding all the exceptional and gorgeous furniture and fittings DO NOT EXPECT ALL THE AMENITIES OF A BIG HOTEL in this small historic canal house ...which on the other hand doesn't suffer from the usual sterile aesthetics of many a conventional 4 or 5 - star chain hotel - on the contrary: our house is highly personalized and definitely no soulless place, but "private,sophisticated and intimate" according to The Lonely Planet." IT IS THE ANTIDOTE TO A BLAND MODERN CORPORATE HOTEL.", as a guest has written.
DO NOT EXPECT:
A bar,a restaurant, 24 hours reception and room service,a swimming pool,a fitness room,laundry service,etc....
There are no public rooms, besides a small lobby (But our guest house is much more than a usual B&B).
...You may expect (as said):Air Conditioning,free high speed wireless internet connection,a labtop,which you can take to your room for an hour or two.
The hotel is set in a charming but small HISTORIC MONUMENT from ± 1710, in the world famous Canal Belt - a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE, since July 31, 2010.
That sadly - but inevitably - implies:A VERY STEEP AND NARROW STAIRCASE, and of course NO ELEVATOR !
THEREFORE, UNFORTUNATELY, THE HOTEL IS NOT SUITABLE FOR DISABLED PEOPLE OR ELDERLY GUESTS.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE:
There is - UNFORTUNATELY - not always someone present who can help you with your luggage .
...If you cannot CARRY YOUR HEAVY AND HUGE SUITCASES BY YOURSELF, PLEASE do not reserve a room on the upper floors, but rather CHOOSE ANOTHER HOTEL in a modern building,such as The Hilton or Mövenpick.
Please do also not reservate in this hotel if you have 3 or more big "emigration"- suitcases - this would destroy the beauty of our rooms...
Then - eventually - you might miss < THE QUINTESSENTIAL AMSTERDAM EXPERIENCE > - as another one of our happy guests named it so appropriately - but we would not like you to ruin your precious health... OR OURS.
